There are always a lot of things happening at the dvi group at the same time. Some video productions are being filmed on a set while other projects are back at our studio in the post production stage, and each one has a different deadline. It sounds like the perfect opportunity for a mess to happen, and it is.
That’s why project organization is so critical. That’s why we have a system, similar to a spreadsheet, to keep everything under control. For anybody else, we believe that would be enough to make sense out of everything. But at The DVI Group, we strongly believe in making it better.
So for the past few weeks, we analyzed our current system to find out which parts of it work flawlessly and which parts are slowing us down. We drew up a presentation for the design of a new system with improvements and new ideas, and everyone at the dvi group was excitedly on board with it. The whole idea of creating our own integrated solution is about streamlining our process.
The old system:
A spreadsheet everyone can view and update in real-time.
The new system:
An application built around databases with thorough integration into our pipeline.
We have since started coding the application. The skeleton of it is there. It looks like an application, but it doesn’t do anything yet. We started with the look and user-interface of it first, because it has to be easy to use, quickly accessed, and have a certain flow to it. Its name: Demeter. We chose Demeter for symbolic reasons: Demeter was the Greek goddess of the harvest, fertility, seasons, and seeing over the cycle of life and death. We see projects as farms in that we plant the creative idea and as the project progresses, the idea grows and expands into something bigger. Thus, our application, Demeter, will see over all of our projects throughout their life-cycles.
You can expect to hear more about the development of our application throughout the process of creating it.
