It’s that time of the year again: the time when we all haul out our festive decorations, ready our stomachs, and pack our bags for travel. The time when we may gather with family members, friends, or other shared communities to celebrate peace and prosperity.
For creatives in particular, this time of the year can mean heightened inspiration—whether from the inevitable change of pace and scenery or from the forced reflection on big emotional concepts (like love, joy, and…consumerism?)
But for the creatives at DVI, the very beginning of this season means an additional gathering of a different kind.
It’s our time of retreat!
When the DVI office retreats, we get out of town and draw closer together.
We eat lots of food, share lots of laughs, bond with departments different from our own, and play a few brain-teasing games, not unlike a family during the holidays.
We also tackle important subjects. We talk with leadership and brainstorm ways to always “make it better, make it easier, and make it matter.” We reexamine our workflow, processes, and history, reminding ourselves of where we started and where we’ll go…also not unlike a family. (Ever lost yourself looking through old photo albums with Mom after holiday dinner? Yeah, we did that, too!)
Historically, many of the things that make us DVI have come out of company retreats: our unique creative brainstorming process, workflow specifics, and even our core company values that are mounted on the wall in our office.
Retreats are a special time for our company. And with the fantastic, recognized growth we’ve experienced in the past few years, it was even more important that we took time to step back and remind ourselves of who we are and what drives us.
We emerged from this retreat with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement. We also emerged thankful for a company that really listens to its creatives, always striving to make it matter for clients and employees alike. And that’s part of what this season is all about, right?
