Delta Air Lines, a major U.S. airline with world-renowned service, is always intent on maintaining its glowing safety statistics. Delta pilots receive periodic, state of the art training to help maintain their flying skills and technical expertise.

Challenge
The airline industry is becoming more tech-savvy by the year, and today’s pilots crave precise information in an instant. New and experienced pilots needed access to a fresh, accessible type of training, so Delta set out to develop an unprecedented video training system that would stand the test of time.

The DVI team invested the time needed to understand the project’s objectives as well as the culture of Delta Flight Training and the pilots as end-users. In less than a year, DVI felt like an extension of our learning organization. They worked closely with our L&D team and SMEs to build a well-oiled production process that produced hundreds of videos in three years. Regular surveys show the pilots and flight instructors value the video briefings as the best content in the training department catalog.
Research that soared
Delta needed technical perfection. To meet their needs, our team trained with pilots, sat in on real airplane simulator sessions, and interviewed Delta experts to really understand how they think.
Built to scale
Delta wanted videos that could easily scale for 10 airplane fleets and hundreds of flying topics, so we created custom animation and graphics packages built for heavy use and high quality. When Delta trainers requested a new batch of videos, we were instantly ready to build—and to date, we’ve built them more than 40 hours of training content.
One pilot said it perfectly: “I think it’s fair to say that there are two types of pilots: Those that are fans of the eBrief training videos, and those who’ve just never seen them.
Built for change
Airline standards are constantly evolving. And we were ready to evolve, too. Delta wanted a video system that would remain accurate and easily updateable—we answered with an internal DVI system that allowed for easy and accurate revisions.
The
Outcome
Today, the eBrief training system is used by over 14,000 Delta pilots, and we’re adding more content to the training library by the day.

Reception
Delta pilots universally praise the series, saying that the animated sequences and simulator shots make flight techniques incredibly clear.
