Case Study—
Delta Air Lines
Take Command
Video Series
Delta is a major airline with hubs all across the world, and they invest heavily in training for the employees at the head of in-flight leadership: their captains. When pilots achieve captain status, they get a tailored training experience devoted to leadership excellence and the honor of becoming a captain—called “Take Command.”
The
Challenge
Our task was to create a suite of videos designed to complement and enhance the in-person Take Command course. And we knew this course needed incredible polish and technical accuracy: it would be taken by some of the most experienced commercial pilots in the world.
Authenticity from fellow leaders
Being promoted to captain means joining an elite club. Delta captains are experienced and sharp, and they all share a rapport with each other and fellow pilots. We knew that insights and anecdotes were best shared by peers, so we took an interview approach to the videos and gathered pilots to tell us their personal stories.
Soaring to new heights
The promotion to captain is the long-awaited pinnacle of a commercial pilot’s career. We wanted to honor that accomplishment, so we took great care to design a polished, heroic visual style for the videos.
Joining the club
We launched a detailed research phase before filming, auditing the Take Command course ourselves and conducting pre-interviews with pilots. Arming ourselves with knowledge, we stepped into the shooting and editing phases with a deeper understanding of captains’ dedication.
The
Outcome
The final videos provided Take Command instructors with a beautiful, high-quality series of pieces that can be seamlessly incorporated into every Take Command course.
